Detailed description

New technical boot for winter alpinism ideal for every type of climbing: ice, mixed, classical mountaineering, ice excursionism. Thanks to its six layer insulating structure, it guarantees excellent heat retention which has been tested even in extreme conditions on Himalayan summits, even if an internal shoe is not used as part of the structure. The watertight gaiter with transversal closure wraps around the foot to ensure the creation of an extra barrier against the cold. It distinguishes itself for its light weight being less than 1000 grams and is not bulky. Underfoot: insulating IBI-Thermo. New exclusive sole with the innovative technology Impact Brake System which absorbs impact, helps during traction and holds back whilst braking. Ideal for mountain guides and for working outdoors during the winter season.

Having bought this boot for the Scottish winter season this year (2010/2011) i was very disappointed to find some major issues with fundamental elements of the boot.

With the new zip system I must say that it may be new but it is definitely not improved. After using the boots twice one zip burst leaving me with a 'waterproof zip' that is not waterproof. The second problem i have is the waterproof seal on the inner of the gaiters did not take long at all to be worn and shredded by the cleats for the laces. Again this has now compromised the waterproofing of the boot.

I am very disappointed to get such a wanting level of quality from a manufacturer to whom i have always looked for good kit.

Baturas are warm, lightweigt and comfortable. I like them a lot as ice climbing boots, but there is a noticable tear and wear after less than 10 days of use. Not noticable wear in outside but innerboot has some fuzzy and other little ripping in some seams. These are because of the laces that goes straight over seams on ankle when shoes are tightened. When laces tend to loosen little bit in use, they rub the seams and makes them wear. Mostly this is aesthetic problem but probably gives a little extra stress to the seams with time.

First impression is still very positive. Baturas have kept my feet dry and warm, zippers have worked as they are supposed to and the boots are very responsive in ice climbing. Couldn't be more happier at the moment but I am waiting to see what the future brings and will update the review someday.
