The La Sportiva Trango S Evo GTX is comfy straight from the box with a flex that sits in the middle ground of flexible and bendy. This makes it feel about right for a rocky mountain day. The toe profile is slightly tapered, but for me this is perfect. There is good lateral stiffness too and this really comes into its own when scrambling, as even the smallest footholds feel stable and secure. The ‘climbing zone’ under the toe is ideal for smaller holds too and generally the forefoot provides a good ‘feel’ for the rock, making this great for more challenging mountain scrambles. The ankle cuff is quite high, which helps to support the ankle as well as offering valuable protection on scree. Better still, that ankle cuff flexes forward very easily, making walking very comfortable. These boots felt ideal for scrambling up Tryfan in North Wales, and I would expect them to be equally at home on the Cuillin Ridge on Skye for example and other mountain days that are a mix of scree, rock and scrambling terrain. This boot can also be worn with C1 crampons that take a heel clip, making them ideal for easier traverses of snow during a mountaineering day.

Great product!

I have been wearing these boots for 4 years and have no real complaisant. they are rated to take a C1 crampon BUT, after taking them into the Climbers shop in Ambleside and spending some quite conscionable time with the sales assistant trying different types and stiles of crampons on the best fitting ones where the grivel air tech new-matic when fitted with the slightly more bent bars which is a C2 crampon?? I have climbed in Scottish winter and in the Alps which this boot crampon combo and had no problems at all. You can get warmer boot but with a couple of pairs of socks you toes will be plenty warn enough. The boots have now been passed do to my girlfriend and I'm now wearing scrapa cumbres which are no wear near as comfortable as theses boots. The once thing that is a bit of a shame is the rubber rind around them has started to come off and did so after about a year of use. I would recommend these boot and have do some of my friends now were them to.

Although the sole is stiff enough for hiking in rocky terrain and easy climbing one can also walk on easier terrain aswell because the ankle is flexible enough. Due to stiff sole they are not best possible hiking boots if you are going to walk lot on paths.
