I nipped into Decathlon earlier today just for a quick browse. I ended up in the hiking department, which now has an area called "Mountaineering Clothing". So after years of poor quality gear, they have got the message. Build it, and they will come. The clothing appears to be very good quality and the softshell jackets feel amazing for their price. However, i couldnt justify spending money on a new jacket. But i have however splashed the cash on a new pair of softshell trousers (above) to replace/pair up with my Arc'Teryx trousers. These are the Quechua Bionnassay Trousers. At £39.99, these are possibly the cheapest on the market! But they are an almost exact replica of the Mammut Base Jump Pants (only they are 1/4 of the price!!). They feel and look great. They have a large leg pocket and two fleece lined hand pockets. But the thing which chuffed me the most was the two ventilation zips (one on each leg). They take up roughly 1/3 of the leg and are a mesh slit which allows for uber ventilation once open. They come with removable braces,so you dont have to worry about them falling down on your route. The inner gaiters feel great too! They are also removable and have a hook to hook onto your laces! They have a crampon resistant ankle armour and just look amazing! My hat really does go off to Decathlon for these, I may even take back all the bad things i said about them over the years.
